The name is an overly obvious nod to the 3rd best song on the best album ever made, ‘C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around me)’ on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (‘Protect Ya Neck’ is No. 1 followed by ‘Bring Da Ruckus’).
Cash is indeed ruling everything around college athletics now. It pretty much always has, but the summer of 2023 batch of realignment created one of the bigger seismic shifts we’ve seen yet. It’s left fans from coast to coast with a bewildering amount of questions and very few answers.
What does this all mean? What’s going to happen to Oregon State and Washington State? Is college football just NFL Jr now? Should I even care anymore? Does anyone besides Colin Cowherd think this is a good thing? Wait, so can you spell ‘Chop Em’ without ‘hope’? Is the soul of college football dead forever?
It’s heavy stuff. It needs to be taken seriously and the perpetrators need to be mocked ruthlessly. I plan to do both of those things.
There will always be two free posts per week as well as several additional pieces of content for paid subscribers. I’m approaching this with an Oregon State lens, but will absolutely be zooming out to talk about the various goings on from coast to coast, or from Southern California to Piscatawy, New Jersey. A natural rivalry if such a thing ever existed.
